Re: EVE players
Except for the fact specifically says that donation or ad supported websites *will* need a commercial licence rather than the free non commercial license, even if they're not forcing people to use their service for ISK.
That's why people are up in arms. Lots of a free sites use the ads to mitigate server costs, under these new terms they'll have to shell out for a commerical licence even though most if not all are already running at a loss.

Re: EVE players
Only if they use Eve IP, namely EVE API, In-Game Browser, Static Data Export, Image Export and Eve Image server. Besides, this is CCP trying to do something that was asked for them by the 3rd Party Developers, so I feel everyone is raging at the wrong people here.

Re: EVE players
I'm flicking through the forums after the Incarna (walking in stations) release and quite frankly, almost pissing myself laughing.
Over in their new MT shop, CCP have added a monocle for 12000 Aurum. Not a bad thing you say? Let's put it into context:
You get 3500 aurum for a plex. A plex is 30 days game time, which is roughly £15. So, 12000/3500 = 3.42.
3.42 plexes ~= £50.
£50 for a virtual monocle.
More lols from Massively: http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/21 ... nsactions/
We're talking more than real life prices for virtual clothes here.

The have (real) apparel in their store all less than that, perhaps the in-game stuff is of better quality.

Maybe they are trying to get around the controversy of introducing MT's by ensuring that no fucker is stupid enough to use them.

Re: EVE players
I saw something interesting somewhere saying that the value of plex in game has skyrocketed.
This interests me, as, if I understand correctly, that makes it a fuckload harder to play for free, more appealing to buy them for cash and sell for imaginary money, and potentially do a bit of a City of Heroes, and completely fuck the economy up by adding things that just don't make sense*. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
*In CoH, they added a make your own instance thing, people made extremely high XP instances, that paid out a lot of gold, so they basically stopped playing the CoH content, stopped getting the drops they wanted, and ended up buying them for extremely high prices.

Re: EVE players
On the plus side, Steam are offering the game (plus a month) for £7.49. Unfortunately you have to start over with a new character, not that I can remember which of my characters were any good at anything. I'd like to see the station-walking to see if anyone else has monocles, but when I tried the trial a month or two ago I got bored of it before it was over.

Re: EVE players
You can't do that yet. Incarna 1.0 consists of Minmatar Captains Quarters in all stations and that's it. You cannot see other players in that environment, and probably won't for at least 6 months until the full Walking in Stations comes out (if ever). It's apparently also raping people's machines, which is interesting.FatherJack wrote:I'd like to see the station-walking to see if anyone else has monocles, but when I tried the trial a month or two ago I got bored of it before it was over.

Re: EVE players
Hmm. EvE's community has turned on CCP.
Currently on the forum's there's a MEGA threadnaught which was posted by a CCP staff member (meat shield in this case) after a day's corporate silence in response to the current rage and anger at Incarna being relatively rubbish, the lollersome prices and the leaked documents showing CCP to be trying to milk everyone for all their worth.
The thread was posted at half past midnight. In under 24 hours it's got nearly 6000 responses, reached 192 pages and has had over 500,000 views.
narf, it's an impressive amount of anger and disbelief being displayed.
Edit: Double implosion. CCP Zulu essentially just told everyone to STFU in a dev blog which has answered none of the questions put forward.

Re: EVE players
FYP. Admittedly the hate is more vitriolic that usual, but 90% of the paying customers are quite contendedly grinding missions and hanging in empire, looking forward to the day when they can get their "in depth avatar experience" [sic]. Funny thing, Plex's had dropped back to lower than before the patch when I logged in today. Speculators? In my Eve? Well I never. Like every patch that's ever happened in the last 6 years, there's a load of whining (and it's always the same stuff spouted again and again), but it dies out after a couple of weeks, we go back to killing each other, then something else happens for everyone to cry about. Eve forum warriors do love a good whine.buzzmong wrote:Hmm. EvE's community bitter vet forum warriors
If I were to whine, it'd be about those bloody jump portals that encourage blobbing, make it easier to run massive tracts of space without being present, and ruin the travel activity through regular gates that gave life to 0.0 At least CCP have listened and gone some to fixing things by limiting them to one per system.

Re: EVE players
Thing is, I do get where the hate is coming from.
CQ is resource intensive, so I can see why people have problems. Sure, it runs fine on my fairly new system, but the memory footprint has over doubled from around 400mb to 900mb even when idling. It was also promised to be optional (cba to find the quote, but it's there in a devblog somewhere) and appearing on the catwalk does break the immersion. There's no reason why you shouldn't be in your ship apart from CCP obviously want you to use it. Couple those two together and it was obviously a recipe for unhappy customers, the feedback from SiSi should have been enough to point that out.
Admittidly ignoring the RP side, it wouldn't be a problem except it doens't actually *add* anything yet except for glorified shiny buttons you have to walk to. The same functions which are accessible faster from the Neocom anyway, which leads me to my second point:
It needed another 2 or 3 months in development before it even hit Sisi to expand and optimize (for less system demands). I understand the technical barriers with displaying a massive station interior where you can interact with all the other people in that station, and the need to develop at least 4 of them is a big undertaking, but Incarna should not have come out with just the Minmatar captains quarters, it should have at least had two, if not all four quarters.
I should point out I really like the entire Incarna idea, with the new Contraband systems that are going to come into play (No more NPC customs, players get to scan ships and crim flag them for Empire shooty times) and all the off-grid black market trading (narf, it's just a pretty extension of in station direct trades), but it's been really poorly done as a *big* 1.0 release.
The whole MT thing is leaving a sour taste though. Sure, I can avoid it currently, but the fact CCP are not denying the accusation their plan is to release stuff for Pay-2-Win isn't a good thing in my eyes.
As a side note, the feedback thread for CCP Zulu's FU blog has over 1000 replies in 3 hours. Impressive raging going on.
Edit: New turrets = cool as fuck. New turret icons = utter garbage. I hope they revert them because it's near impossible to tell them apart visually when they're in your cargo/hanger bays.

Re: EVE players
So I started playing Eve again recently. It's come on quite a long way in the last 18 months, looks even prettier (even on low settings) and they've made huge improvements to the accessibility of the UI - it still looks largely the same, but it feels much slicker and more current. Unsurprisingly all that rage about AUR and MT didn't make one jot of different - it works fine and has little impact on the game other than giving people the option to buy hats if they have too much isk (or cash) to spend. But if ever there was a game were hater are gonna hate, it's certainly Eve Online!
PLEX are fairly pricey these days (up 100mill or more from what I remember them being), but that's more a reflection of a general inflationary trend in the market - there's basically too much isk around, but then the top end pvp ships that the experienced and (supposedly) rich people fly cost around 1.2bill a pop, and it's the newer players who produce them (mostly from mission running and faction warfare, which in many cases horses people to use low end ships) so there's a nice cashflow working through the economy.
Politically it's a bit stagnated into 2 major power blocks, with few really significant movements - Goons finally got what they fought for and now dominate 60% of 0.0 There is a feeling it's all about to crumble though, so could be fun times ahead.
Meanwhile I'm chilling around our old haunts of Frulegar, Elgar and Osvestmennur. Brings back fond memories of the earliest days of 5punkorp, when we considered it a major achievement to build Wiggy a battleship!

Ah Fru. I lost my first beautiful Rifter and it's brand new MkII ACs there to an RA sniperthron. Heartbreaking. It's impressive that Eve is one of the oldest surviving MMONGs out there and is still thriving. It's interesting because it's thriving due to being different from all the others. I still don't have time to play it.

Re: EVE players
Way back when 5punkorp was but a bunch of scared noobies running around Elgar in frigs, we decided to take a foray into 0.0 space, where we fought an epic battle (saw a cruiser on the gate), said angry things in local(er, hi?) and then withdraw feeling good about ourselves (ran away like girls). Memory doesn't serve who was there, but I believe Fab, Wiggy and Amblin were involved in what fireside storied fondly related as 5punkorp's First Battle of N-RAEL.
So it was with some sense of nostalgia that I took this pic whilst idling in my super carrier in a POS in N-R, surrounded by a just handful of the ships we fielded last night.

Re: EVE players
Was that the one where we all ran off through the gate camp shouting 'Bummers'?
Re: EVE players
That'd be the one. I remember we were very pleased with ourselves.

Re: EVE players
I think I might possibly resub for a while, the Retribution patch looks to be fixing quite a lot of stuff, especially the new UI (brilliantly, by making it behave like the old one ), and also to be making some really good changes. New bounty system sounds good as well.
Re: EVE players
Bollocks Buzz, you'll just rage like the bitter vet you are!
Though I have to say, Time Dilation is awesome. It makes massive fleet fights actually work, and removes all that frantic clicking following by blackscreen CTD stuff a thing of the past. Also means I can dual box in big fights because the slow mo give you a bit more time to think.
