Rift
I can't remember exactly why but this game piqued my interest after I saw the early videos. I suspect it was the promise of dynamic content and the variety of environments, due to the rift mechanic. Having watched the game preview video below I'm seriously tempted to stick in a pre-order.

Anyone else interested?

this, but I've not seen anything so far to convince me that, class customisation aside, its not just another lacklustre WoW clone.Grimmie wrote:The level of class customisation looks promising, but I hope there's more to separate it from the big boys than just that.
also this, although DCUO is working rather well as a stopgap.Personally I'm holding out for Guild Wars II

pro tip:
set your standards low, that way youll never be disappointed
Edit: this quote from MMONG.com caught my attention: "Rift is a perfect game for folks who want more of the EQ2, WAR, WoW, LotRO, style but are sick of the previously mentioned games and would like to see a new take on the tried and true model."

Will it be free to play? That seems to be the only way new MMOs are getting played beyond their trial sub/30 day time limits these days.
Even LoTRO which is the most polished example outside of WoW I've seen have now adopted the model. Allods Online, which I think has always been free is another example of a very slick-looking WoW-that's-not-WoW.
I think we need more things that really aren't WoW at all, because that market's sewn up.
I don't know what to expect from Guild Wars 2. If it's mainly a graphics update, that doesn't really count for much - I'd still be playing Guild Wars all the while if I liked everything else about it.

They're reworked the way you get quests, I believe.FatherJack wrote:I don't know what to expect from Guild Wars 2. If it's mainly a graphics update, that doesn't really count for much.
They're meant to be more tailored to 'you' and 'your story'.
Dunno how it will work in practice, but all the blurb on the GW II site looks promising.
Yeah, the opening quests and storyline quests scattered around the game will alter the area around your 'home', which everyone will have in the city and be able to invite people to see. That alone is enough to pique my interest, without the payment model and old GW style of 'talent' builds.
Very much agreed.FatherJack wrote:I think we need more things that really aren't WoW at all, because that market's sewn up.
Sadly this.Grimmie wrote:I watched the second part of their review, more WoW/WAR style gameplay.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not different, and those games didn't keep my attention long.
I was hoping for something more. However we've only seen the very early game, hopefully the public questing will be more interesting.
It seems pretty easy to get a beta key without pre-order, I've received mine. Just gotta wait for a beta event then I can get a preview.
