I guess someone got a boner whilst watching transformers punch each other and realised it would sell well with a few big faces and a thin veneer of a story.

That was Michael Bay. Talking of which...

Edit:
It seems that Sam will possess a power glove in the movie.

That's supposed to be Unicron, or Unicorn as he's being referred to on the Youtube comments. I haven't seen the second film yet and I'm not sure if I want to.

I think I've seen the first one, but it all went so fast that I'm not sure if I did. Either that or I had an epileptic attack and blacked out.

Biggest disappointment of the second film is including a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_S ... ackbird</a> and then not having it fly.
Instead, it teleports. Of course.

Thor

I like the look of this, but perhaps it's just Hopkins being Zeus that makes it good.

I saw the trailer earlier, but can't say I'm very impressed. Asgard and the gods simply don't appear very Scandinavian. And I'm not talking about the obligatory black guy.

Thats because its based off the Marvel comics, rather than norse mythology. The Marvel version of Thor is very much not a straight retelling of the traditional myths, Hence things like the Destroyer: im pretty sure the original myths didnt include a giant robot. Its more a case of (in the Marvel universe) Norse myth being based on reality, and not quite getting it right. Its the traditional, for sci-fi at least, "the Gods are really aliens, advanced science is indistinguishable from magic" thing.
In short: if you are looking for mythological accuracy, then this is not the film you are looking for.

As someone who likes the Marvel mythology almost as much as the "proper" mythology, im quite looking forward to it. Looks like good silly-fun.

Well, looking for accuracy in films is like looking for a virgin in Essex anyway.

Cedar Rapids

Official selection for Sundance, and it has Anne Heche (who I've always had a "soft" spot for).

The Mechanic - looks like more action fun from Mr Transporter

Falling Skies - A Spielberg TV show about alien invasion. Sign me up.

Red State - The new film from Kevin Smith about Christian fundamentalist in Middle America. Looks terrifying. (Ignore the crap at the beginning of the video)
