Games I havn't played (yet) and kinda regret it....

Never got around to playing these. Or never felt they was enough justification for forking out the cash to buy them, but somehow I feel I've missed out and should one day give them a go when they hit the bargain bin:

STALKER everything after the 1st
XCOM the first
COD all of the good ones
Halflife 2 Ep 1 (kept getting bored of HL2)
The Witcher

There's quite a few that I feel like I missed out on, but most of these are archaic. The reason I feel like I missed out on them is because I never owned a games console or gaming computer before the PS1. So most of the golden age of 2D and adventure gaming went completely past me.

Think I've played all of those, and enjoyed all but The Witcher. I remember always meaning to play Prisoner of Ice when it came out, but by the time I got round to it I couldn't even run it any more. There's probably loads more, especially recently with so many offers on Steam.

Glad someone else got bored with HL2! The graphics and totalitarian/resistance atomsphere are nice at first, but man it feels so sterile, vacant and boring these days.

I've only barely played Deus Ex and i've never picked up Starcraft. I think those are my only real gaming sins.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through and getting a bit tired of it if I'm honest. The special abilities are a bit lame because they use energy really quickly and are fiddly to use or I forget they're available when I get to a situation that could make them useful. Even the ability that's supposed to conserve energy drains it, which is stupid. It is a very good game though, with some flaws. And I'll probably finish it at some point.

You're worrying about energy use? You don't have stockpiles of energy cells with which to replenish yourself? I never use them with the hotkeys really because remembering which aug is on which hotkey is impossible so I just hit F1 and switch to the aug screen and turn them on that way.

Your argument about the Energy Recirculator is dumb because it definitely has a big impact in reducing energy use when it's upgraded and you're using augs like Cloak or Spy Drone that really sap your energy. In fact, if you have cloak and the energy saver ones fully upgraded (easily doable BTW) you can stay cloaked for ridiculously long periods of time instead of the 4 seconds with just the level 1 cloak.

Yeah, there's no point in trying to upgrade every Aug in Deus Ex, there's only a limited amount of upgrade cans.

Things like arms and legs I never put past 2, but regeneration is always maxed out, normally meaning energy conservation and cloak is around lvl 3.

After checking I have a stockpile of 9, so not much of a stockpile.

My argument may be dumb but this is my first time playing, I'm not aug l33t like you. I don't use the abilities much because I tend to run out of energy and they're not upgraded much either. Perhaps I need to pause the game a lot more and be more tactical, like I played the recent Bioware's games.

u r teh dumb spoodeh! Gah, I barely remember anything about Deus Ex. Could you turn invisible? If you could then I definitely did that. Or am I doing that in Oblivion at the moment? Yes I am. In fact I can't remember what my character looks like in that any more.

Games I have not played but possibly want to:

The Witcher - I bought it so I assume I want to play it
Batman Arkbacon Asylum - see The Witcher
Baldur's Gate - People rave about it, but I worry it's too old school to get into now
Diablo - ditto
Ocarina of Time - constantly tops "BEST EVUR!" polls so I must be missing something
Thief - not sure which one, but the one people cream over being creepy. You know the one.
Final Fantasy Any - never played a single one. Am I really missing out?
Your mum - whoops, this shouldn't be on the list as I play her every night lolololol

I think it may be just that you're not exploring enough to find everything. They hide things all over the place for you to find.

Is it only Pete and myself that bought and actually played The Witcher then?

I really enjoyed it and considering I played it on an underpowered PC last time I think I'll revisit it this summer and play the enhanced edition as well. I may even complete it now the final chapter won't be chugging.

I just finished it and I absolutely loved it. I found it was quite different from most American RPG's I played, it seemed to contain a lot more folklore and myths than just elves and skeletons in armour. It did have a lot of bugs though, such as suddenly not being able to cast magic or not being able to attack certain enemies for no reason whatsoever. But it was CD projekt RED's first game so I will happily forgive them everything as the end product was still pretty damn good.

I also read that whilst the witcher 2 will be released on console, it will foremost be a PC game whilst the console versions will be ports, as it should be.

And am I the only one that was sad enough to collect all the sex cards? Apart from the ones you can't get on your first playthrough that is.

I especially enjoyed fucking the vampires, none of those shite angsty emo dorito headed sparkly vampires in the witcher.

Baldurs gate - fucking excellent. Graphics tweaks are available however, I'd suggest hunting them down.

Threef - the cradle, its scary in all of them but scariest in deadly shadows. Sitting in a dark corner watching the crazy shit around you is bad for sleep.

I think I played Ocarina on the Wii. Not sure, it was pretty unpleasant in a Yahtzee kind of way.
I didn't get far enough into Thief to see the Cradle. The stealth (or lack of) just pissed me off too much before I got there. Seemed very artificial to me, hugely overrated.
I played one combat of one Final Fantasy, and decided I preferred Pokemon.

Damn, that's a pretty negative post. I do like a lot of games, but I also see a lot of calling games classic because they do somethig different, event though it doesn't actualy make for a great game. PCG are terrible for this.

Yeah I stopped exploring so hard about half way through and I just want to get to the end now. It's a compelling game but my patience for its subtleties has diminished. A fault of mine more than the game.

Ocarina of Time was amazing back then but I think you're better off playing a newer Zelda if you want to experience the world. It's the same shit, different iteration.

This. I gave it a couple of hours play, then realised I was playing it because I thought I should, because other people had said it was good. I wasn't enjoying any aspect of it, so I stopped.

I quite liked the stealth in Thief. Yeah, it was quite artificial, but then I cant think of a game where the stealth *isn't* hugely artificial. Apart from games like Flashpoint, in multiplayer. I once had a mate pretty much standing on my head without realising I was there, thanks to the ghillie suit.

But stealth in single player is always hugely artificial. Baddies are always either blind or psychic, and rarely have memories better than goldfish. Mild shadow renders you invisible. Also, what's with crouching making less sound? I find I can sneak better in real life when I'm not scraping my bum across the floor.

Most games I want to play but haven't yet, I already own. The Witcher is one a lot of people have mentioned as are Batman and Thief.

Some are old, but still worth playing, Caesar, Dark horses II, Anachronox and the City Builder series. Some are too old to play and/or won't play anymore, like Starcraft or Doom engine-type games.

Some I should try harder to like, despite having negative reactions when first playing them like Borderlands, World of Goo, Torchlight, Psychonauts, Alien Swarm and Hitman. Some I don't think I'll ever reconcile with - while turn-based used to be my thing, these days it bores me a bit when the whole game is turn-based so UFO: Afterlight and Civilisation IV aren't likely to get reinstalled.

Stuff like Far Cry 2, Clear Sky and Crysis that had problems when new might play okay now, but I'm not sure they're worth it. I've recently given second chances to Dark Messiah, Battle for Middle Earth II and Deus Ex - but it's only the latter where I've got any further than I did before and am still enjoying it.

Loving The Witcher. It's a bit slower and more convoluted than the Dragon's Age story, and all the clichés are thoroughly represented (scottish dwarves, welsh druids, cockney thieves etc etc) but I'm really enjoying the atmosphere - the confused way the story drips into place actually fits with the whole theme, the A-Life is some of the best I've seen and I disagree with what many say about the combat - it's not a single click fest at all and can get surprisingly tactical.
