Yarr! Pirates

Post by friznit »

I remember playing Sea Dogs, and its Hollywood usurped sequel, Pirates of the CaRIBian. Both were pretty fun but ultimately lacked any depth. So I was poking around in a reminscing type way and ran across Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Improbably Long Names. It's Russian, and as we all know in Soviet Russia games play you. So it got shit reviews. But reading into it most of the reviews had an emo strop because there was no WoW arrow telling them where to go and what to poke. Instead you're dumped into what is a suprisingly "realistic" sandbox and expected to get on with it.

Now that there are a couple of patches and a few mods out, apparently it's rather fun although there is still a pretty steep learning curve (a mere blip for us vets of OTTD, Eve and Dorf fortress).

So I'm strongly tempted to find a vendor of said game and give it a go.

i vaguely remember playing the first age of pirates and thinking it had potention, it wasnt great performance wise though and aparantly quite buggy, but i dont think i had a machine that was really up to the task at the time.
i would be interested in trying the sequal, ive been wanting a decent pirate game for ages and sid meiers pirates! didnt quite do it for me as everything not ship based was a bit crap, and the ship based stuff got boring after a while as it was very repetitive

Potension = that invasive auger of impending doom when you're turtling for the potty?

Or in your case, 3 days without Mary Jane?

Swept, installed, modded, started, CTD'd. I'll give it a proper go tonight, but (very) initial impressions is that it's quite clunky, possibly a bit buggy and looks pretty old but nevertheless could have lots of potention :P
