Power Supply is dead

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Power Supply is dead

Post by TheJockGit »

I had one of these in my old rig which has suddenly stopped working... does anyone know if they are repairable or is it time to buy a new one for it?

If a new one is needed then what modern equivalent would you reccomend, obviously don't want to spend too much as it's not the main rig anymore,.

Ta in advance.

As far as I'm aware you can't repair a PSU yourself. At least not unless you know a lot about electronics (and I've had no inclination to try it myself). Depends on what's gone - might just be a capacitor or something, which would be easy enough to replace if you could find the right one. But a PSU is just a transformer, which is all ferrite and coils, and there's pretty much fuck all you can do about that.

Short answer: I'd buy a new one.

They are repairable, but it's a fiddly as fuck job that requires top notch stees and infinite patience. And good quality bits to replace the broken ones aren't a massive saving on just buying a new psu if something big has let out magic smoke.

Short answer, I'd buy a new one too, summat proper shite like this.
