Well, it's not a flight sim. You have to play it like it wants you to and it'll make more sense. You can't horse it, man.

I don't usually like flying games at all but the demo was enjoyable enough. Not good enough to make me want to play more though.

Well, that explains things :) I didn't look at any trailers so I didn't really know what to expect...I just assumed it was a flight sim.

If you hadn't got it, the crazy view is the only time you can use the plane without restrictions, so you can pull off stunts like flying backwards and generally things that would make the pilot throw up. Handy against heat seekers, or getting a lock on things on the ground as you carry on going.

I'm not sure where my joystick is. Or even if I have a joystick port to plug it in to. :(

Apparently it's released here on the 12th, how odd.

Ooh, I still have an ancient Microsoft Sidewinder. Lovely joystick. I'll have to root out the port for it though - comes on a ribbon cable with its own slot plate. Crappy thing.

So? It's out, I've actually not installed it yet for a number of reasons, but is good?

And does it work well with a keyboard?

I ordered the HAWX+thrustmaster joystick combo, but I'll have to wait for it to be in stock again. :(
This does mean someone might get a free joystick when I receive the new one.

I just completed it in the normal mode. Got to level 22 out of 40. So now I'm chipping away at challenges like killing stuff with cluster bombs and such. I want to fly all the planes damn it!

The off mode is terrible imo, camera is in the worst possible place. Don't why they thought it was a good idea. It's not too bad in the test flight, but when there's a crazy 20 plane+ dogfight happening at low level using it is asking to cream into the deck at Mach one.

I'm driving avec keyboard and although it does seem mental at first it gets better and easier (twss).

If I remember I'll put a review up soon(ish).

Right, I've got it and I'm enjoying it.

Apart from my joystick being on the way out and getting occasional ghost inputs (generally involving flares or missiles), and a massive deadzone for rolls (although, options to alter deadzones and sensitivity for joysticks is already implemented in the next patch, seems silly they left it out of the v1.0 though) I'm enjoying it lots.

The Off mode is bloody useless thanks to the lock camera, it would be fucking immense if the camera was in the proper place behind the craft (or even limited to a cockpit view) and if the throttle worked.

That's another gripe. The throttle. Or lack of.
Now, I don't quite understand the inclusion of the boost function and brake together even on the xbox when they've got the rest of the controls perfect, it should be throttle up and down, and have another button or double tap and hold slow down to engage the air brake. It would make the game much better, and along with a revised camera in Off mode, would be epic fun and all round good, not to mention allowing much easier control of speed rather than just slow, medium or fast. Would be good flight controls then.

The "target tunnel" thing is a bit useless as well, but I suppose that's personal preference.

Now, plane wise with regards to missions. I understand that for certain missions you need to use bombs and I'm happy enough with the restrictions on that type of mission even though really you should be able to choose any plane with JST missiles, but forcing you to use planes that have the Multi-AA missiles on certain missiles is a bit suspect as that should simply be a payload choice.
It's a little bit too restrictive on that part, although I do understand that as you progress you'll unlock different payloads allowing the planes to do more.

I get occasional slowdowns which make no sense, such as dropping to about 20 frames on a mission I've just played at 40-odd. Seems to be a bit random as it seems to happen more when I'm repeating missions. Quick alt-tab sorts it out though I've found.

Apart from some control issues then and some restrictions, it's quite good. Missions seem fun, lots of planes.

7/10. 8 out of 10 if they fix the controls and OFF mode.

Edit: Random missile and flares are apparently a common error and might not be my joystick giving up the ghost according to the official forums.

Pretty much everything you've listed are known faults. Tried online yet? It gave up the ghost for me a couple of days ago.

The random flare/missile launch is voice spazz, the deadzones and high speed (and stall) problems should be fixed soon.

The off camera is hella crap, I use it when well away from the ground.

Feet above ground is actually feet above sea level, they should make that clearer and offer a choice.

This game was released a bit beta. Shame really but at least they're trying to fix it.
