If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

We here at bit-tech have a saying - "you can never have too much storage," In which case the Seagate 1.5TB hard drive seems ideal, packing more gigabytes into a shiny 3.5" drive than ever before. We find out how this jumbo drive stacks up against the competition.

Looks interesting, but with such a crappy response time, I'm not buying any.

Not enough there to tempt me away from Samsung at this time. If the price drops a bit and you need more storage it's a definite option.

Given I've just got a new drive, no doubt I'll be looking at 2tb+ drives when I need more space.

I have the 500GB version of that - it's lovely fast, but I use a 320GB 7200.10 for Windows atm, as I tried the 7200.11 320GB "single platter" drive 3 times. They died within hours of use each time. Shame, because the 320GB has a great access time, and a sustained data rate of up to 120MB/s depending on the location of data on the disc surface. The inner tracks give a lower performance of course.
Before mine died, I was getting averages of 80 to 100MB/s on the outer region of the disc.
