I got HL working on 2k, so my initial thoughts about DX being the problem are probably wrong, but the built in drivers and suchlike weren't as advanced as XP so maybe that was it.

ANYTHING that runs on 98 ran on 2000, and 99% of stuff than runs on XP runs on 2000.

It's like a good looking bastard child who's also a model from both OS's.

I can't think of a single Windows game that wouldn't run on Windows 2000. There's some DOS stuff that wouldn't work, but that's about it. My main desktop was running 2000 until 2005 I believe.
