I'm hearing that FIFA is the way to go again this year. PES was always the connoisseur's footballer but in recent times it's Gone Wrong, while FIFA has been working very hard to up its game.

I once accidentally gate-crashed the Pro-Evo 2 launch party.

I was drinking in a bar before they set-up for the event, then it started but they didn't chuck anyone out who was inside before hand, after about 8.30 all the drinks became free and scantily clad girls appeared handing out copies of the game for the PS2.

Some more mates tried to join us later on but couldn't get past the bouncers, I went out and asked for them to be let in, and they were, stupid bouncers

And who say's you don't get anything for free

All I have to say on the matter is that all the players in fifa seem to have been made with the in-game player creater(made quite well too) and we all know that the best football players have facial defects that would make shrek proud.

In short, you can make convincingly ugly people.

I was going to make some kind of similar post as I have just got FIFA 09 for the 360. I played 07 lots on the PS2, but have only played 08 on the 360 with mates as I never owned it to play single-player.

Initial thought about 09 is: hard as fuck. Keeping the ball is very difficult, and I've definitely not got the hang of shooting yet. Most of the goals I've scored so far have been chips for fuck's sake. I think that I need to spend some time getting to grips with it all, and learning how and when to use the tricks (which were never really necessary previously) and most of all to learn how to shoot properly.

However, it's very pleasing when a through-ball tears apart the opposition's back line, and this seems to be the key to getting through on goal. Crosses aren't as sure-fire as they used to be for FIFA, but I think I'm getting there with corners already.

In terms of looks, the game is very smooth indeed, although there was a mild bit of juddering last night. Some players look spot on, others are unrecognisable, but they're getting ever better with player animations. Haven't looked into creating my own player yet, but I shall do.

I've never played Pro Evo much, but playing as Tyneside or North London is just irritating, and made even more so by the odd players and teams that they have got licenses for popping up.

I'll confess now that I've knocked it down from World Class difficulty to Professional while I figure out what the hell I'm doing, but I think that the game could certainly be great. As one review somewhere said, it's the closest game to a simulation yet.
