Need a new Shartak/Urban Dead type thingy

Post by Anery »

So, Shartak is dead, UD is (no pun intended) dead.
Does anyone have any good ideas for games to follow these up with (work can be so dull some days)

Simon wrote:Hi,

I saw Anery's post on the 5punk forums about Shartak and UD being dead.. I gather a lot of 5punk are bored with Shartak - is there anything I can do to revive interest or was it just time to leave?
I feel, as we spent so long playing it'd only be fair for us to help simon by telling him what made many of us leave shartak.

PM him on the shartak forums, post here or in the waugh, and I'll make sure he sees everything.

Well I'm currently coding an online game, should I ever finish it (and find a proper hosting service for it) we shall have fun.

Meanwhile, how about Tinywarz... It may prove fun, but it costs a fucking fortune to play it.

I get the impression, although I stopped playing Shartak a while back because I just don't have time at work any more, that the game thrives on our interactions with the other groups. The war with CP was fun, but when it ended we all sort of dispersed and didn't have a lot to do. I'm assuming that this is what's happened now, that nobody has had any inspiration for an adventure. I'm not sure what Simon could do about that really, it's more about player dynamics.

I concur with Pantsu on the lack of player events, but I'd go further and say it's because there is a lack of things to do as part of the game. I know expanding into realms like crafting and construction is a massive leap, but currently the core gameplay is limited to searching for items, a bit of healing, and killing, with the occasional other event (eg, Willies!).

I however DID get rather annoyed by the possible zerging that was the bills and then the criminal fraternity (who were fun, until a couple of members by all accounts seemed to be zerging).

I don't mind being teamed up upon, but when the entirety of 5punk was being attacked and to my knowledge, died every single time on a daily basis, it was just far in excess of any sort of coordination possible by a group.
I know things like that happen, and there's not too much you can do about it, but it did suck the enjoyment out of the game.

I also realise it's slightly ironic as we did pretty much lock down quite a few players ourselves, so they probably didn't enjoy that either, but at least it was done properly and they did have a chance at getting one back on us as we were only just slightly organised.

All the characters with very similar names just ruined it really. At least with Freedom, you could go and get him back personally for killing you - when you couldn't tell one Bill from another you didn't have an in-game justification to kill one in revenge.

I don't know if it was a group, zergers or just a bunch of copycats, but it felt like griefing. I know we picked on a few people but it was only semi-organised, didn't last that long and had some sort of in-game reason - I didn't really care for all the drama on their forums.

I'm actually finding it to be a lot of fun as a lone headhunter.

I gave up completely on my York character because of the Bills - they made the game incredibly dull.
