Telly/360 DVD sound oddness

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Telly/360 DVD sound oddness

Post by Joose »

Had a bit of a bizarre thing happen today: Put a DVD in my 360 to watch on my shiney new HD telly, and no sound came out. When I stopped the DVD and went back to the Dashboard, there was still no sound. Turning the telly off and on fixes this, as does changing the input from the xbox's HDMI to summat else and back again. This can even be used to watch DVDs, as the problem only occurs when you initially start the DVD. Everything else works fine; games, streamed video and music is all good. Only DVD's. Also, It was working fine this morning, and Im pretty sure no settings have been altered on either device between then and it not working.

Any ideas?

I have had this happebn with my *very* expensive NAD DVD player, which I put down to querky british bleeding edge technology but actually turned out to be the fact that *sometimes* (yet to work out a pattern to the whys whens and wherefores) the dvd player autoswitches to 5.1 when I'm currently outputting on 2.1

Fiddling manually with audio settings in the dvd player produced mixed results. restarting it seemed to solve the problem more often than not.

Sounds like your problem is unlikely to be this, but maybe worth a look at your 360's audio output settings 5.1 vs 2.1/2.0 when misbehaving
