The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass
Portal
God of War II
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
Super Mario Galaxy
Bioshock
Alien Hominid HD
Everyday Shooter

is the choice, voted Portal as CoD wasn't even on the list, despite six games I would never consider playing being on there, it's currently second behind Mario. Their readers have always been hopelessly sentimental when it comes to Mario.

:above: I suppose your six games you wouldn't play contains Ratchet & Clank. I agree with the other five (Portal and Bioshock being the only ones I played plus tried RaC so it may be any other five :)). RaC is so ridiculous it's actually fun. (although it's as repetitive as sex with a goat in a desert-industrial environment)

And who the hell can possibly vote for the over 9000th installment of Mario?

It's supposed to be very good so why not? I've got it but not played it yet as I'm trying to get Super Paper Mario out of the way first, which is pretty good.

Open your mind :P

If I want to play Super Paper Mario, I get a screenshot of Super Mario Bros, print it and cut out the little paper figures. Sigh.

Well, that's what I'm doing. Got a problem with that? :)

Er, yeah - I don't have a PSP, or plan to get one. I rarely get the chance to use my DS as it is.

The reason their list was a bit odd, was because it was taken from the winners of the "platform" categories: DS, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, 360, XBLA and PSN.

I'm not really a big fan of platform games (the other type of platform) at all which seem to dominate the console market - my consoles are for driving games and JRPGs mostly, with the odd quirky title that doesn't get released elsewhere.

I think my platform choices for the year would be limited:
DS: Christmas day was the first time I'd opened it since May, and it was Pokémon Pearl that prompted me. Absolutely no innovation there I could see, with the touch screen merely used to select moves. Closed it again half an hour later.
PC: Portal, but with many others - it's been a good year, so much so that UT3 and Quake Wars barely got noticed.
PS2: Final Fantasy XII I guess, everything else has rather disappointed.
PS3: I heard there was a good screensaver for it.
PSP: Not seen anything that has convinced me I need one, the remakes of the PS1 remakes of the S/NES FF games notwithstanding.
Wii: My two most-eargerly awaited releases, Eledees and Pokémon have been bitter disappointments - the rest have just been filler and nothing's actually been as much fun as Wii Sports, or as easy for everyone to just have a go and play. Apart from family/friends Sporting fun, I've played old GC games on it mostly.
360: Forza Motorsport 2, the reason I bought the console.
XBLA: That bugs strategy was alright, but there's nothing I'd pay for. What to with my 5,000 credits? Oh, look more Forza cars.
PSN: Absolutely no idea, so I'll pretend it was WiiVC and say Shining horse.

For 2008, I'd like to be able to list Spore, FFXIII, GT5, GTA4, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Jade Empire 2 and Lost Odyssey, maybe Guild Wars 2 - not much else is exciting me.

Wow. After losing interest in Spore it looks like I have nothing to look forward to in 2008 at all yet.
Oh, tell a lie. Zak & Wiki on the Wii.

So will GTA4 be released for PC or do I have to be a consolefag to play it? (like the last 2 or so)

Most likely a Ctard initially - while GTA3, VC and SA eventually made it to the PC, they were all very poor by at-the-time PC-game standards. GTA3 was very poorly optimised, and it took until VC for PCs to really catch up with the engine they used - so VC was probably the right game at the right time. SA just looked horribly dated by the time it finally made it.

I rather enjoyed them on the PS2 when they were new, but of the three spent the most time in VC on the PC, as being able to use the mouse really adds to the shooting bits, although the driving is perhaps harder without analogue controls.

My view would be grab the console version if you already have a console and are a fan of the series, if not prepare to wait up to a year and don't expect too much from a PC release. I am quite looking forward to seeing the game realised on next-gen hardware at last, and plan to have some sort of HDTV capability by its launch.

I guess past history doesn't mean there won't be a closer PC launch, since it's supposedly easier to develop in parallel now, but I suspect Sony paid a lot of money to make sure the previous games had helped sell their consoles, now it's Microsoft and Sony - so I don't know what the deal is. Maybe they'll wait for all the fanboys to buy it, then announce a PC version a few months later, like they did with Gears of War and probably will with Mass Effect. Big-name "XBox exclusive" games have had rather a history of becoming not-so-exclusive quite quickly, whereas a lot of the PS-only stuff has stayed that way permanently.

:above: Yeah, I played most of the GTA games on PS2, but I'm not really interested in picking up a SexBox right now just to try GTA4. (And PS3 is DEFINITELY not an option)
