If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Foreign HDDoovds

Post by The Incredible... »

I have been thinking about getting the HDDVD drive for my 360 and have been seeing that a lot of people have been getting their HDDVDs from yank sites like movietyme, because HDDVD is region free, and america get releases before us.

The one thing that puts me off doing this is that the discs are dual sided, HD one side original flavour dvd on the other side, and if i got them from america the dvd side would be region 1, which i can play on my pc, but wouldn't be able to play if i went to a friends house for example. it occured to me though that i could just copy the dvd side and make the copy regin 2/free, but i just wondered if the dvd side of HDDVDs is copyable in the same way as a regular dvd or if there would be any extra protection or anythng.

also, on a partly related note, would a PS2 play a copied dvd, made for example with DVD shrink?

They are introducing harder-to-copy DVDs generally, not just on HDs. If you were able to copy, it'd work fine on a PS2, though.
