Clive Barker still thinks games are art [News]
Clive Barker makes the news again this week, continuing to say that games are an artform and that critics like Roger Ebert don't understand the medium.
Rather than being one type of art, they're multifaceted, you've got the obvious things like Art and Sound, but then you've got level design and other content, not to mention the coding could be a work of art in it'self.
What vibrospazz said. The effort involved in a game at all levels, coders, skinners, artists etc is massive. Everyone there places far more time, effort and emotional attachment into their game, even if it's shit, than 90% of modern art types do into anything they create. Fr'instance, more effort went into Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing than a piece of elephant shit nailed to a wall.
His games fail, and films made of his books generally fail. But his books are good, if a little derivative of stephen king, but everyone steals ideas from each other anyway.
