9800, but its nvidia's!

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

9800, but its nvidia's!

Post by HereComesPete »

I've looked around the internets about these cards, and seen loads of speculation about them being out this xmas with a 9800gtx at the price of a 8800ultra, with a billion+ teraflops, 2Gb ddr4, 65nm architecture, 800watts psu needed. Has anyone seen anything on a site they (semi*)trust that could shed light on if when and what is actually on them?

Only thing i've seen so far is that they've not got anything that works right now.

any speculation is just that.

Personally, I'd expect a performance jump of 7800>7900 levels, maybe 30%, unless something has gone really well.

I can't see them rushing this, despite what countless people on random message boards think. they are crushing ATi and don't need to drop 8800 prices, plus if they can't get it working its not going to arrive any time soon.

Not to mention, an 8900 would be more likely probably, but I suspect they've pushed the 8800 chips about as far as they'll go.

Have they created a 65nm version of the 8800? I'm sure I read about that somewhere. A 8900-9000-9100 type iteration would extend their current naming scheme vastly, but undoubtedly at some point they will decide to re-name for pointless marketing purposes.

not AFAIK, the 8800 is still 90nm, the lower 8x00 range is 80nm.

apparently the G92 is meant to be 65nm, but we'll see.
