PS3 fanboy conversion 90% complete
So after having had a borrowed 360for just under a week i am already convinced that i want t buy one, not necessarily instead of a PS3 but to keep me occupied until the PS3 goes down in price and has some good games.
i might even go and preorder an elite tomorow. what i want to know is what is gonna be the most uber game out of bioshock and halo 3?

Bioshock, by about 7.
By the looks of it, it's gonna be the bestest game since like HL1 or OOT, depending which is your favourite game ever.

ocarina was fantastic and so was HL1 at the time.
I was leaning towards bioshock myself, it does look like its probably better, and it might be easier to get than Halo, AND it's out a month earlier, not that i can really afford to get my 360 next weekend, but not being able to afford stuff has rarely stopped me in the past.
Also, does anyone know how the game reward system works, given that i had £5 pounds on my card to pend when i got mario party 8 i'm guessing it's something like £2.50 for every £50 you spend. What i was thinking is that if i go buy the 360 elite for £30 plus maybe the messenger kit if its out, or some other accessory to take it up to £.50, that nearly £20 of points i can use off the price of bioshock
edit: ah found it, it's basically £1.25 for every £50 BUT doubles up to £2.50 per £50 on preorders

Well personally I found that all of the back-and-forth stuff got extremely dull. Definitely not "fantastic", or anything even close.Dr. kitteny berk wrote:I think it still lands somewhere in most top 10 video games ever lists.
I vote Halo 3, for multiplayer goodness. I'm sure Bioshock will be fun though.

WHUT?!one! I don't think so, I've ordered bioshock for my pc and it will be great, but halo 3 will be fucking huge, mountain dew have made a new drink for launch day! It will blow other console games away!! Gazillions of players on live and it'll be shiney and sexual.TezzRexx wrote:Bioshock by a country mile.
But on a less fanboy rant note, if it is just one, do what berk said, in fact, scratch the disk, say you got it as a present, it was opened by your mate/boyfriend whatever and you where SHOCKED AND OUTRAGED and demand a full refund, then buy t'other one. My sensible 'I can really seriously only get one because I have no monies' vote goes for halo 3, purely because I've played 1 and 2 and loved them both, slightly weak/bible-esque story aside.
I've also put about 8,000 hours into them so my view may be slightly skewed, but I also know what I'm talking about.

...except Halo 2 was rubbish. It was so nearly fantasical, but it fell short like an asthmatic leper IMHO (Not starting a debate as to whether it was good or bad here)HereComesPete wrote: Stuff about bumming halo 1 and 2
I've voted Potato, as I'll be getting Bioshock, and Halo 3 promises much awesomeness, but flashy graphics (eg, Halo 2) don't make a good game, gameplay does. And Bungie have been skimping on info.

Pfft.
Dual Wielding was/is broken and you know it. Dropping a weapon in one hand to punch/swing/bat with the other....pfft.
The whole arbeiter plot was rubbish as well, although pretty much all of the Chief's plot and levels do rock. And rock hard.
But still more pfffft.
/would rant, but talking to fanatics is like preaching to the crazy.
On the other hand, Halo 1 was much win. And I suspect Halo 3 might be.

Agreed, I rarely use it, except when playing alien human pistol combo, overcharge headshot is an easy kill, so easy it feels like cheating. grenades and a br is always better.buzzmong wrote:Pfft.

Having read the books, the whole covenant/elite thing makes far more sense, and I empathised with a great leader castigated by twisted politico's who use religion as a tool. Actual gameplay-wise I was a bit wtf! at the heretic leader boss fight, but then they put the smack the prophet whilst holding his grav chair bit in. I don't like boss fights in stories like this one. I didn't need to be moved away from the chief, but I found it made a pleasant change, also I feel it was kinda needed to help with the whole 'elites are our friends!' thing.... wrote:The whole arbeiter plot was rubbish as well, although pretty much all of the Chief's plot and levels do rock. I love this game, but I'm a reasonable person, I know its not perfect, I know it could be better, but I think despite these short-comings that it's an outstanding game.
Damn straight, even though the gameplay feels VERY different to me, proximity mines, emp grenades, the assault rifle(win) AND battle rifle(win) AND smg(sux), the jackal shield! Lady spartans!!1! All the brute stuff!!!111!1!one!! I'm going to have a lie down now.... wrote:On the other hand, Halo 1 was much win. And I suspect Halo 3 might be.

a game having a weak story doesnt make it rubbish, i dont remember much of a plot in the first Halo.
i liked dual weildng, it forced you to adopt a different playing style, which gave the game more variety. I found i didnt need a melee attack when i had two SMG's/plasma rifles 'cos the enemy would be dead before you could get close enough.

Oh, don't get me wrong, Halo 1 plot wasn't excellent, but it was elegant in it's simplicity.
Which was: Earth has been beaten at it's penultimate stronghold, got wind of massive weapons system, race to find it, whoops it's not a big helpful weapon as it kills everything, now stop the weapon....and then get home.
Halo 2 was a bit....I suppose, trying to do too much. Most of the arbieter stuff was done in it's own bubble, only the cutscenes brought it all together. Pretty much made it unneeded..like the "kill the heretic" level, it's got nothing at all to do with the rest of the game really.
And don't get me wrong, dual wiedling IS great, but the brokeness of the melee annoys me greatly, partially due to the low ammo counts in Halo 2 (of which is there NO explaination, carrying capacity is about a third of the first game, which as you're meant to be a super soldier and it's not a realistic game...yeah ok means you pretty much have to use coventant weapons, even on your own space stations).
And the zooming when melee'ing is a waste as well. It's a bit too excessive I suppose, a little screen shake in the first was fine, but the zooming really throws me every time it happens, I just think....why so excessive?
Also the shotgun. Why on earth did they turn it into a pointblank splatter cannon? <-- Judging by video's, seems fixed for H3, yays!
I suppose I should point out that while the game is actually quite good, I just find all the faults add up and make it rubbish.
If only Bungie hadn't rushed it and perhaps delayed it 3/6 months, it probably would have been alot better.
