Re: XCOM (Firaxis)
I think it was the initial sniper and assault upgrades - getting a sniper rifle meant they couldn't move and shoot/overwatch in the same turn and the assault's assault rifle is replaced by a shotgun. I know now that both of those can be changed/mitigated, but they felt like downgrades when they were...

Re: XCOM (Firaxis)
Well, I had another go and I think one of us has changed and it's probably not the game because I don't really remember it being as enjoyable. Went for Easy Ironman, but I did discover that you can just quit the game and do the mission you were failing on over again, so it's not actually any differe...

Re: XCOM (Firaxis)
My favourite games are all ones where I fail, a lot, but each time learn something that makes me go a bit further before I fail next time. Its only games where I fail and have no idea what I could have done to not fail that annoy me. PLaying with saves enabled means I dont have to learn, because if...

Re: XCOM (Firaxis)
(Figured I should reply here, rather than derail the XCOM2 thread) I too tried many times to play the first game, got it on the PC on release, then later free on the PS3 and later bough the expansion for the PC version, each time trying and failing to do more than a couple of missions. I think it wa...
Re: BF4
With a 5punky squad to spawn on most of what I found frustrating in BF2 is eliminated, I tried it with randoms and liked it not at all. People who are very good at a certain thing, or just colossal dicks can still basically ruin it for everyone though.

Re: Movie Trailers
Of the last three trailers, the vampire yakuza one makes the most sense to me. I couldn't work out what high rise was supposed to be about from the trailer and I didn't watch Cloverfield because it sounded tedious for the reasons Pants describes.

Re: Single Player Game of the Year 2015
It kind of seemed too obvious to mention at the time of nominations, but now that everyone's played the shit out of it for a month or two they seem to have moved on. The total hours across all 5punkers played in the last two weeks are less than that of almost any single player in the first two. Othe...

Re: Single Player Game of the Year 2015
My favourite game that's not Fallout 4 was Life is Strange, GTA V I'd kinda been and done on the PlayBox360, Life is Strange was a change of pace, a surprise out of the blue, episodic content that spanned most of the year yet unlike so many actually all came out, not always glitch-free but always en...

You can get a non-edge Samsung Galaxy S6 on EE for £27-ish, though it's only 500MB data and £50 for the phone up front: http://shop.ee.co.uk/mobile-phones/pay-monthly/samsung-galaxy-s6-32gb-black-sapphire/details#choosePlanAnchor ofc older/lesser phones are less money. EE seems to have the best cove...

Re: 5punk attempts to complete a 4X game
I've only ever really got the hang of three of those Xs, substituting the last for being eXterminated. I have both those Civ games which I enjoyed (apart from those fucking sandworms in BE) and Endless Space, which I found massively, impossibly, hard.

Despite making a load of money on KS/Indiegogo and looking like it was actually going to be made, lawyers are now involved: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/axanar-studios-behind-star-trek-franchise-try-to-shut-down-independent-fan-film-a6791126.html Boo, hiss and all that...

Re: 5punk award nominations 2015
I like to try to nomiate things that haven't been mentioned already, but it's hard to see past Fallout and Rocket League. Single Player Game of the Year Life Is Strange provided a welcome change of pace and the time-travel problem-solving/causing elements kept me interested, if not guessing, to the ...

Re: BF4
Presumably Paracel Storm isn't a premium map if I was able to play on it with the game time free version?
I didn't hate it as much as I remembered hating BF2, and currently have no money in any case, but I might be tempted by the standard edition price if it stays that way until I have monies.

Re: Planetside 2
I updated and tried it briefly last night. I was able to see and actually kill one of the opposition team so that's a vast improvement on the last time I played it. He respawned and killed me back while I was still gleefully shooting his corpse's head in celebration.

That is, I don't think I'll grab it. You may recall I had to scrawl "you hate this game" on my BF2 disks to remind myself not to spend hours reinstalling it. I got BF3 when it was free and according to Raptr have played it for 0 seconds. I also have literally no money.
