Dear bitches,
I am need of a printer. Just a regular, run of the mill, no frills, A4 printer. Quality isn't really an issue, I don't give a shit about photos, it's mainly going to be used for printing random shit you need printed off the internets, like keyboard layouts for games (I'm playing flight sims again ). The thing I'm having difficulty with is finding one that lasts for more than 3 pages and doesn't cost more than my car to refuel.
affectionately up yours,
Frizzles

They'll all do that, remember printers are sold at a loss with samples of ink in, they make the money from you buying ink.
If it's for nothing important, a cheapy printer with inkheads on the cartridges, and dodgy aftermarket ink will probably be cheapest

It typically costs more to buy a single own-brand cartidge than the printer itself, so you almost might as well get a nice one with a scanner, little screen and memory-card slot with wireless network operation as a nice-to-have. Factor in the cost of replacement cartidges at the start, HP being the most common have the most cheap alternatives, and in my experience have the largest ink reservoir, although the cartridges also house the print head, which can up costs.
The best option is of course to print everything out at work.

Laser printers: an up-front purchase rather than inkjet's subscription approach.
